Yu-Gi-Oh! is a 2-player turn-based trading card game that uses traps, spells and monsters to defeat the opponent. These are the three main Yu-Gi-Oh card types. See a breakdown below of what they are used for:

Spell cards - these are strategic single-use cards that can be identified by their green background. They can be used to hamper your enemy by disturbing their game plan.
Monster cards - possibly the most crucial Yu-Gi-Oh cards used to battle your opponent. Example monster cards include Machine, Beast, Aqua and Thunder.
Trap cards - these cards can be identified by their purple background and are used to disturb the other player’s turn
