Tabletop Games Strengthen Family Bonds, New Global Study Finds
Boulogne-Billancourt, France – 18 September 2025
To mark its 30th anniversary, asmodee has unveiled new global research highlighting the growing role of tabletop games in modern life. The study, conducted across the UK, USA, France, and Sweden, reveals that nearly two-thirds (64%) of people use tabletop games to bring their families closer together, with that number rising to 71% in France.
As digital fatigue grows, tabletop games are emerging as a powerful alternative offering connection, creativity and joy across generations.
Key Insights from the Study:
- 26% of people play board games at least once a week.
- Tabletop games are now nearly as popular as video games (32%) and podcasts (29%) for leisure time.
- Millennials are leading the trend, playing tabletop games as often as they consume the news (38% vs 37%).
- 53% of respondents turn to games for escapism, rising to 65% in the US.
- 40% say games help them open up emotionally more easily than regular conversation.
“Tabletop games are gaining more traction as a favoured leisure activity, offering an appealing way to unwind and spend quality time with friends and family,” said Thomas Koegler, CEO of asmodee. “They are a gateway to imagination, wellbeing, fun, and togetherness.”
Celebrating 30 Years of Shared Play
To celebrate three decades of bringing people together through games, asmodee has launched a digital fresco a hand-drawn, interactive seek-and-find experience created by French illustrator Charlotte Hugues. Inspired by stories from over 1,200 players worldwide, the fresco is available to explore online until March 2026, with regular quests and prizes for players. Click below to find out more:
