Esdevium Games, the UK reseller for the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), has announced the success of the evergreen property’s first quarter results, as reported by the NPD Group.
The Q1 results compare January-March 2016 with the same period a year ago. The growth in sales suggests interest in Pokémon in the UK is at an all-time high, a perspective Esdevium Games would agree with. Esdevium claim a combination of wider distribution, must-have product and a renewed excitement in the brand are some of the key reasons behind the current success of the Pokémon TCG.
“The sales in 2016 so far have been extraordinary!” commented Managing Director at Esdevium, Steve Buckmaster. “Pokémon’s products have been outstanding this year, particularly those Box Sets associated with celebrations around 20 years of Pokémon. These have gone down a storm with our stores and fans alike. The Pokémon Company has done a fantastic job over the past few years in bringing players into the community, and we’re also thankful to our stores who have championed the TCG.”
This year’s sales rise marks the third successive year of double-digit UK growth for the Pokémon TCG. With much more promotional activity planned throughout 2016, at both a consumer and store level, the future looks very exciting for Pokémon.
